This wiki shall become a database and reference for workflow and best-practice questions in regards of cgi and especially vfx.
One important aim is not to be software specific. Workflows are based on technical steps, that can be made in different environments. It is more important to understand and know these building blocks. And if documentation is referring to steps in a program it is more important what happens by that, then to know how the icon looks.
… let's start some knowledge base here
A good practice is to search for a topic, before editing or creating an article. To get a general overview of what is existing and what kind of structure has been built, one may use the sitemap.
Another good starting point, also to understand the syntax, can be found here.
There are a few conventions to lay out so that a structure being built is always readable and nice to work with. The major concept here are namespaces, which are like folders to create structures. Since best-practice workflows are applied inside or related to certain programs this is a good starting point.
A workflow about setting up multipass-rendering in Autodesk® Maya® as an article should be sorted like 3D, Maya, Multipass-Rendering. To start a page following this scheme one would use this URL:
…sparkforge.org/doku.php?id=3d:maya:multipass-rendering
Also graphics or related content should be sorted into namespaces.
Here shown if one clicks on the fourth icon from the right to search and upload an image. To insert an image, click on the name of the image itself.
So it makes sense to do some search and see if there are similar topics or topics related to a software before to use the same namespace for a new article.
